    No strangers to hospitality around these parts, Jason Foody and Khris Veldman will be remembered most recently for the fine period B&B in Warrenpoint that they ran when Jason (now manager at Stitch & Weave in Derry) was the opening General Manager at Killeavy Castle - and, on visiting their wonderful new project in Ballykelly, it's exciting to find the same drive to create modern relevance in a sensitively restored old property.

    Simply oozing the genuine character that can only be gained over centuries, Petronella is set on the most attractive of Kilkenny's famous slipways, just off High Street. Not the place to expect handy parking or gardens, but instead you'll find an immaculately maintained cut stone building dating back to 1602 and - far from being down a dark and dingy back alley - it is very well lit at night.

    Tucked away on a garage forecourt in Ballinrobe is a tiny shop and production unit creating exceptional handmade chocolates under the brand name Van Velze. Husband and wife team Rob Van Velze and Deborah Kilroy met in Australia and spent a dozen years running a chocolate boutique and patisserie in Rob’s native Amsterdam before Deborah enticed him to a new life in Ireland.
