Cannon School had little trouble defending its NCISAA 4A state championship on Saturday. The Cougars cruised past High Point Wesleyan 71-52 to win the third state title in school history. "No matter who we played, we had to have a championship mentality," Cannon coach Kelvin Drakeford said.

Chambers High School has two top-100 players on its roster, and Friday night Tarris Bouie and Markus Kerr showed why they are such sought-after college prospects in the Queen City 3A/4A conference tournament championship game. The two juniors both had monster games in a 75-70 win over North Mecklenburg that snapped the Vikings’ 16-game win streak. “It feels really good,” Bouie said.
