The Dunbar High School football team is going for it's fourth straight state title, and a consistent part of those winning teams has been offensive lineman Joshua Blackston. Blackston made Baltimore City Public Schools history as the first Baltimore student-athlete to be named to the Under Armour All-American Team. Blackston got the surprising news at practice Thursday. He's a powerful blocker that gets moved all along the offensive line -- he can play guard or tackle, on either side of the line.

Michael Dukes knows a few things about winning. Pikesville High School girls basketball coach has led his program to four straight state titles. This season starts with a simple focus: the drive to win five. Dukes has total confidence in a proven approach to that level of success: "Hard work, hard work and hard work," he said. That philosophy doesn't scare players, it attracts them. "I like being coached by him," said junior Mariah Jones-Bey.

YEARS AGO, ONE OF THE MOST EXPLOSIVE PLAYS IN THE NFL INJURY CONCERNS TAMP THAT WAY DOWN. LAST YEAR, ALMOST 80% OF ALL KICKOFFS SIMPLY RESULTED IN TOUCHBACKS. LEAGUE IN THE BUNCH. THROWBACK THURSDAY FOR TOWSON’S MEN’S BASKETBALL PROGRAM AS THE TIGERS WELCOME BACK FIVE DECADES OF FORMER PLAYERS FOR THEIR NOW ANNUAL ALUMNI BASKETBALL GAME, ALL OF WHICH CAUGHT MY ATTENTION SINCE I PLAYED ON TOWSON’S FIRST DIVISION ONE BASKETBALL TEAM. BUT IT WASN’T UNTIL I GOT TO THE TO THE ARENA TODAY THAT IT STRUCK ME. THAT WAS 44 YEARS AGO. I’M NOT PLANNING THAT. THAT GAME. STILL FUN TO WATCH.

The Baltimore Orioles lost two more pitchers to surgery. Kyle Bradish will miss the rest of the season and much of next year and reliever Danny Coulombe will likely be out of action until at least September. That means the O's have to go to the minor leagues for either immediate help or to trades that can bring in veteran help. Bradish underwent Tommy John surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right elbow. The typical recovery time for that surgery is 12-18 months.

In last nights Ravens broadcast I commented on the use of a chain gang instead of technology on measurements. I did not intend to demean any individual. I apologize to the members of the chain gang for what I said. I recognize they are doing an important job as professionals.
