State and local leaders celebrated the 25 years of growth and success of the Iowa Jobs for America’s Graduates program on Thursday at the DMACC Ankeny campus. About 100 people filled the Iowa Culinary Institute at DMACC to share refreshments and reflect on the program’s milestones. Notables like Gov. Kim Reynolds, Google server operations lead Allie Hopkins and iJAG board of directors members made remarks and spoke with students at the event.

The city of Ankeny has announced the first phase of the Rally Complex sports facility is now open. Located at 725 S.W. Prairie Trail Parkway, the complex features 12 lighted outdoor pickleball courts, restrooms, a shelter, two softball fields and batting cages. The softball fields and batting cages are still under construction, a news release said. The facility aims to fully open later this summer.

Bravo Greater Des Moines has announced that over $2.5 million was raised as part of a one-time endowment campaign for youth arts access benefiting Passport to Culture. Passport to Culture is the only program administered by Bravo and provides funding to all metro elementary schools to offset costs associated with arts and culture field trips or outreach programs. Last school year, more than 20,000 students accessed cultural programming across Greater Des Moines with funds from Passport to Culture.

That was keynote speaker Stephanie Ettinger de Cuba’s main message at Polk County Housing Trust Fund’s recent Housing Matters Symposium. “Families struggling to pay rent or are being evicted experience [poor health] in both the children and their parents,” Ettinger de Cuba said.

Des Moines Area Community College’s board of directors has announced the beginning of the search for the fifth president of the institution, as President Rob Denson is set to retire at the end of the year. The board is starting its search with a series of in-person and online forums on May 6 and 7.
