A RICH rural heritage is proudly observed in Stretton-on-Fosse, and never more so than during its joyful May Day celebrations. Not one, not two, but three May Queens were crowned this year in a traditional ceremony that followed the village children’s well practised turns around the maypole. The ten-year-old new royals were Emma Curtis, Ella Digweed and Imogen Rutley. They were nobly announced by town criers Darcey Cox and Hattie Greene, also aged ten.

A STING operation by police and trading standards in Stratford caught four out of seven businesses selling alcohol and vapes to underage customers. During the operation, Stratford Neighbourhood Team (SNT) and officers from Warwickshire Trading Standards investigated illegal sales activity in the town.

SUPPORTERS will be wishing Zeiss Vision + Eyecare marketing manager Alex Barke happy trails as he takes part in a run this Saturday (10th May) for a very worthy and appropriate cause. The family-run optician, based on Church Street opposite New Place, is celebrating its 30 years of trading. To mark the three decades Alex is running the Chiltern 30 – a 30km trail run through the beautiful woodland, hidden routes, up steep hills and through quaint villages of the Chilterns.

A GRAINY black and white photo from 80 years ago is a treasured keepsake of the happy day war officially ended on 8th May 1945. The photograph has been hanging proudly on Donald Field’s wall – and both he and friend Charles Bates are featured in the picture which shows the VE Day street party outside 23 Scholars Lane, where the Guise family lived. Residents from Ely Street also attended. Recalling the occasion, Charles says: “I was five and am in the left of the photo with my mum Marjorie.
