    Sparwood's growing baseball team is swinging back into action and gaining speed, after its revival in 2023. The Sparwood Maulers hosted a Skills Competition on June 18, to celebrate the end of a successful season. A new board and players have helped revive the sport of baseball in Sparwood after a period of dwindling play, and the group has been steadily growing. It currently has 116 members, ages four to 15.     Fernie's Canada Day celebration has grown in size, with help from multiple local clubs and societies who have stepped up to organize events. The Rotary Club of Fernie, Fernie Elk's Lodge, 3300 Club, Fernie Lions Club, and Royal Canadian Legion have teamed up this year to organize festivities for Canada's 158th birthday. They've partnered with The City of Fernie and Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡi'it First Nation to offer a variety of family-centric events that will run downtown throughout the day.

    BC Wildfire Service is responding to a small wildfire burning north of Fernie, near Iron Creek. The fire was discovered on Tuesday, June 17 and has grown to about 0.1 hectares. In an e-mail to The Free Press, BC Wildfire Service stated a crew is currently on-site with additional support from a helicopter to suppress the blaze and prevent it from spreading.
