Elk Valley RCMP are investigating a case of a missing Fernie resident, who has not been seen since April 11. Barbara Currier was reported missing by a concerned family member on Monday April 14. Her family told police that she left her home on Friday April 11 at 9 a.m. to go to a doctor's appointment, with the intention of returning home. She has not been seen since.

Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡi ‘it First Nation and B.C Wildfire Service are undertaking a few prescribed burns near Grasmere, to help promote ecosystem resilience during fire season. There will be four spot-sized burn projects launched in April, approximately nine kilometres southwest of Grasmere, covering up to 0.2 hectares. B.C Wildfire Service notes the timing of the burns will be dependent on weather and site conditions, but could start as early as Apr. 15.

A crowd gathered at Vogue Theatre to hear Smith's first original album Anxious played for the first time. Fernie Fire and Emergency Services Department welcomed the public to the fire hall on Apr. 10 for an open-house. The fire crew gave tours of their facility at 1492b Railway Ave. and offered rides in their trucks. The fire hall, located on the east side of the railway tracks near the derby grounds, is a temporary location that was established to house the fire crew until a new building is constructed.
