The Supreme Court of India is currently functioning with 32 judges, only 2 of whom are women. There are currently 2 vacancies in the top court, which will come down to one if the recent Collegium recommendation to elevate Justice Joymalya Bagchi is cleared by the Central government. By the end of June this year, the number of vacancies will rise to 4, with the retirements of Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna and Justices Abhay S Oka and Bela Trivedi in the months of May and June.
