    The Missouri Senate perfects three bills during the first week of the special session. The Senate perfected SB 3 with a voice vote on Wednesday. That’s a bill that includes the Show-Me Sports Investment Act, which will allow the state to appropriate money to build a new stadium for the Kansas City Riyals and renovate Arrowhead Stadium for the Kansas City Chiefs. The amount of money the state can spend cannot exceed the tax revenue the teams generated in the previous year.

    Cole County Emergency Medical Services Chief, Eric Hoy, will be doing double duty as the county merges two of its agencies. The county is required by state law to have an Emergency Management Director. The last director left in November of 2024, and former Director Bill Farr has been serving in an interim capacity. However, his retirement plan limits the number of hours he can work.

    Emergency officials now say more than two dozen structures were damaged by Tuesday night’s severe storms. The Gravois Fire Protection District says crews were dispatched to the 32000 block of Ginger Road that night for a report of smoke inside a home, possibly caused by a lightning strike. When crews arrived in the area, they encountered several downed trees that blocked access to the home. One firefighter proceeded on foot to the home and found that a large tree had fallen on the home.

    Governor Mike Kehoe is expanding the scope for the General Assembly’s special session. Kehoe called for the special session on May 27. Originally, Kehoe tasked the legislature with three priorities, including a stadium funding plan for the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, storm relief measures, and certain critical appropriations.

    A Columbia man is accused of assaulting two domestic partners, hitting one of them with his vehicle. Zachary Wainscott, 28, is charged with first-degree domestic assault and armed criminal action. Court documents state that a Boone County deputy was called to the scene of a motor vehicle accident, possibly involving a fatality, near Cooper’s Landing on May 21. When the deputy arrived on the scene, he saw a victim who wasn’t moving. The deputy said the victim did not move until he grabbed them.
