THEY came from far and wide, the great and the good of Everton Football Club past and present, to bid farewell to Goodison Park, the “Grand Old Lady” of English football, and after 133 years of memories - good and bad - there was not a dry eye in the house, or a dry glass within a five-mile radius of this glorious old ground.

Iliman Ndiaye scored the final two goals in the history of Goodison Park to see off the old stadium in style. Although Goodison will remain in use, by Everton’s women’s team, its 133-year association with the men’s side ended with a comfortable victory for David Moyes against already-relegated opponents. On an emotion-charged day at Goodison, Ndiaye had the result wrapped up in the first half, although given the half-hearted effort from the visitors, one of them would have been plenty.

There seems to be something about the Merseyside air that doesn't quite agree with Arsenal. Saturday's frustrating draw with Everton means that of their last 27 visits to either Goodison Park or Anfield they have returned to north London as winners on only three occasions. And on their next visit to the city in early May they will almost certainly be applauding Premier League champions-elect Liverpool onto the pitch.

Everton gave neighbours Liverpool's Premier League title hopes a boost by holding Arsenal to a draw for the second time this season. Leandro Trossard gave the Gunners a first half lead but it was cancelled out by Illiman Ndiaye's penalty early in the second half as Everton followed up their goal-less draw at the Emirates in December by taking another point off the frustrated London club.
