RUBEN Amorim’s bold gamble has Manchester United on course for their worst domestic league season in decades but, on a nervy night at Old Trafford, it has also booked his club an unexpected Europa League final date with Tottenham in two weeks. That will take place in Bilbao and Athletic may never get another chance to play a European final at their home stadium although, considering they came to Manchester with a 3-0 first leg deficit, they made a good attempt at it.

Davide Frattesi’s 99th minute winner finally settled this astounding Champions League semi-final, the last of the 13 goals produced by these two giants of the game presenting Inter Milan with the chance to become Italy’s first European champions in 15 years in this month’s final. The Inter sub finished well, guiding the ball into the corner from eight yards, after some fantastic approach play from the brilliant Marcus Thuram, his cross and tidy lay-off by Mehdi Taremi.

Pep Guardiola appeared in a Brazilian interview before kick-off in which he talked of taking a break from the game - possibly even retiring - when his contract with City ends in 2027.
