    WMUK-FM has been recognized by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters with four Broadcast Excellence Awards for journalism produced in 2024.  WMUK Report for America Corps Member Michael Symonds’ story Meet the urban Republicans of Southwest Michigan won Best Hard News & Current Events Story in Public Radio Group 1. The story was part of a series, paired with Meet the rural Democrats of Southwest Michigan. The series took merit in the category of Mini-Documentary or Series.

    Voters are deciding party nominations for the November elections as well as ballot proposals and other races. You can find real time results from the Michigan Secretary of State, Kalamazoo County, as well as other counties in Michigan. Election Day in-person voting for the primary election was sluggish overall at mid-afternoon Tuesday in Southwest Michigan, although there were some exceptions. As of about 2:00p.m. around 7000 people had voted in-person, absentee or during early voting in Kalamazoo.

    WMUK-FM has been recognized by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters for two investigative stories from 2023. A five-part series on the story of a human trafficking survivor in Kalamazoo – It Happens Here – won “Best Mini-Documentary or Series” in Public Radio Group 1 in the MAB’s Broadcast Excellence Awards. aired in September and October.

    Bob Edwards was the first host of NPR’s Morning Edition. He was supposed to host the program for six months until they found new hosts, then return to co-hosting All Things Considered. Instead he would remain in the host chair for over 24 years until NPR executives made the controversial decision to replace him in 2004. Edwards died February 10, 2024 at age 76. NPR planned to make Edwards a “senior correspondent,” but he made the decision to leave the network.

So @ConsumersEnergy outage map told me that we were supposed to get power back at 5:45 this afternoon. At 5:55 I got a text telling me that they estimate our power will be restored on March 4th. That’s a big difference
