The building featured is obviously an historic glasshouse. Its architecture suggests around the turn of the last century much the same time as the glasshouse at London’s Kew Gardens.

If you didn’t recognise the unique structure immediately then th bridge projected on to the building would be a big clue. Also the flag project on the surface of the building would identify the country it is likely to be in. It might take a little research but it is the flag of Australia’s First Nations peoples. It is of course the Sydney Opera House from which you can identify the city.

The featured structure is not a floodlit Eiffel Tower but is inspired by the French capital’s iconic structure. It is a communications and observation tower and is painted white and international orange to comply with international aeronautical regulations. It is known simply by the addition of the city to the word “Tower”. Tokyo Tower can be found in the Japanese’s largest city, Tokyo..

The building featured in last week’s “Where in the World…” could easily be mistaken for the Palacio de las Artes Reina Sofía in the City of Arts and Science in Valencia, which was featured a few weeks ago. That’s because it is designed by the same architect, Santiago Calatrava. Its unique architectural style has become an emblem of the city. It is the Auditoro de Tenerife which narrows the location down considerably.

Where in the World (662) was, as I suspected, mistaken for the Guggenheim in Bilbao. I am led to believe the even Google Lens struggled. It is a concert hall in a city better known for Triumphal Arch and a structure designed by Gustav Eiffel. The building is the Philharmonie de Paris, which gives you the identity of the city.

I love browsing the second-hand bookshops at many of the National Trust’s properties. I always come away with a couple of well-written travel books, many of them classics. Here are two I picked up at Arlington Court, North Devon. #travelbooks #nationaltrust #northdevon
