On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a day for celebrating justice and a time to look back on how far the nation has come in its strive toward racial equality, I was instead overwhelmed by my fear of the next presidency. With what felt like the weight of the world on my shoulders, I called my mom, who also acts as my therapist and my best friend. I explained to her the concoction of fear and disbelief that filled my mind.

I am tired of acting like Vice President Kamala Harris’s race doesn’t already play a large role in the upcoming 2024 presidential election. In recent weeks, it has been hard to find a headline that doesn’t mention, question or weaponize her race. As a mixed woman, I find this incredibly frustrating — and a waste of time — given the major issues at stake in the 2024 presidential election. Kamala Harris is mixed-race.

If you were following the recent Democratic National Convention that took place in Chicago this year, I am sure you are aware of Gus Walz’s heartfelt reaction to his father Tim Walz’s acceptance speech. Gus, his 17-year-old son, was seen standing up, clapping and exclaiming, “That’s my dad!” with tears streaming from his eyes. The public’s reaction to that should be warm — it should feel great to see a sweet moment of a son being so incredibly proud of his father and not afraid to show it.

Let’s be real. The Eatery is not fine dining. While it gets the job done, as the year progresses, one is destined to become tired of the food. Compared to the dining halls, the meal swap places on Pitt’s campus often taste like fine dining for college students. I want to let some new students know where your one meal swap a day is best spent. For some background, I was always tired of the Eatery not offering the healthiest options.

Since his arrival five years ago, Pitt swimmer Jerry Chen has made a mark as a big part of the men’s swim team. The NCAA hands out a postgraduate award to 126 student-athletes yearly who excel academically and athletically, and Chen earned himself a special place in Pitt history as a recipient of the award. “I think it’s a combination of my academics, my athletics and my involvement with Pitt athletics,” Chen said.
