☀ High 25CGood morning!Today’s story has been a year in the making. When I was still on maternity leave, Tyler messaged and asked if I would be interested in going on a Halq'eméylem place names tour during the BC Historical Society conference. The answer, of course, was a resounding yes. Shortly after I returned to work, I stepped onto a bus, and spent four hours listening to Sonny McHalsie tell the history of the Fraser Valley like I had never heard it before.

🌧 High 18CGood morning!I have lived in my current house for three springs now, and never seen the rosebush in our front garden bloom. Maybe I was pruning it wrong. Maybe it was just tired of living. But this year, for no reason I can discern, it decided to extend one long branch across the fence and burst into luxuriant blossoms. The flowers are quite pretty, even if the bush itself now looks rather ungainly. – Grace🌤 Local forecast: Langley | Chilliwack | Abbotsford | Hope🚘 Driving today?

☀ High 24CGood morning! No man is an island, and the Fraser Valley Current is no exception. Although it may look like we do things on our own, The Current is actually part of a suite of local newsletters owned by Overstory Media Group. One of our sister newsletters is the Georgia Straight, which some Vancouverites may know for its arts and culture coverage.

Interesting thread that has the same key player as my @ukings j-school honours project: Brian Timpone. Local news, from 12,000km away AKA What do you mean they outsource community journalism? https://t.co/k7Lr5CEmMz

Where did Trump voters get their news? 📰 Yes, there's social and partisan sites, but there is another influential strategy that isn't getting enough attention: Manipulated, pay-to-play and all out fake news sites I've been covering a mix of those for years. Here's a primer 🧵
