Communication professor Jeff Hancock admitted to overlooking “hallucinated citations” in a court declaration he crafted with assistance from ChatGPT. For the declaration, Hancock surveyed scholarly literature on the risks of deepfake technology in spreading misinformation using GPT-4o, but failed to factcheck the citations generated by the artificial intelligence (AI) agent, he wrote in a filing to the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota last Wednesday.

When Gheed El Bizri ’25 M.S. ’26 arrived at Stanford from Lebanon, it was difficult for her to find a sense of connection on campus. This week, the Leland Stanford Junior University Marching Band (LSJUMB) is preparing to bring the bang and the boom to the 127th Big Game against UC Berkeley. The LSJUMB kicked off Big Game Week with the annual Bearial on Monday. While the band played a eulogy, Oski — the Cal mascot — was beheaded and impaled on Claw Fountain. Stella Chung ’25, the LSJUMB manager, said all planning for Big Game — including costumes and songs — have been kept secret.
