Following Walla Walla Noon Rotary's second annual Cultivate Peace Conference on Saturday, April 12, the organization dedicated a second peace pole in the city. The pole is now at Heritage Square near the Friendship Bridge on South Spokane Street and is meant to represent inclusive peace among all people. Thousands of peace poles have been planted around the world. Jan Corn, co-chair of Rotary's peace committee, said peace poles were the most prominent international symbol and monument of peace.

The fifth annual Walla Walla 6 Hour took place Saturday, April 12, at Bennington Lake. Participants numbered 128 women, ranging in ages from 21 to 84, and coming from throughout the Pacific Northwest region.

One person was reported dead after a helicopter crashed into a power transmission line about five miles south of Dayton, a Columbia County Sheriff's deputy said at the scene. The crash occurred about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, off South Touchet Road and caused a widespread outage in the Dayton area, said Sarah Boudrieau, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Chief Civil Deputy. The deputy at the scene said the pilot was the only occupant in the helicopter.
