The attempted murder trial of Brandon O’Neel, the man accused of shooting a Washington State Patrol trooper in the face in 2022, is now scheduled for Monday, Sept. 8. O’Neel is charged with first-degree attempted premeditated murder, first-degree assault with a deadly weapon, attempting to elude police, threatening to bomb with intent to alarm and harassment with threats to kill. A College Place man accused of sending a threatening letter to a Florida sheriff was arrested in Washington earlier this month, and extradited to Florida on Saturday, May 21, according to court records. Matthew Moulton, 45, is facing one charge of second-degree threat to kill, a felony in Florida. The alleged threat was made against Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood. Chitwood made headlines in Florida last year for posting the names and photos of juvenile offenders on social media.

The case against a man accused of strangling his ex-girlfriend will resume after his competency was deemed restored, according to Walla Walla County Superior Court documents. Robert T. Lucero, 25, of Walla Walla, is charged with first-degree burglary with assault, a Class A felony, two counts of second-degree assault, Class B felonies, and protection order violation with assault and unlawful imprisonment, Class C felonies. The charges stem from a Monday, Sept. 16, incident.

A disturbing smell coming from a College Place apartment has led to a 21-year-old man facing a felony animal cruelty charge. According to a College Place Police Department news release, an apartment resident in the 200 block of North College Avenue noticed an odor coming from a neighboring unit. The resident also heard two dogs constantly barking and had not seen her neighbors for several months. On Sunday, May 18, she decided to call police.
