Two brothers have been charged in connection to two shootings that occurred Friday, May 30, in Walla Walla. One victim was shot in a leg in one of the incidents. No one else was injured, according to officials. Eduardo Chavez Contreras, 27, of Walla Walla, is charged with first-degree assault by complicity, drive-by shooting, and unlawful possession of a firearm. The woman suspected of hitting a 71-year-old Walla Walla man on a motorcycle with her vehicle on Saturday, May 24, now faces a felony charge. The victim, Robert Ellis DeWayne Jr., died four days later. Tycie Mae Harper-Rongey, 26, of Walla Walla, is charged with a hit-and-run accident leading to a death, a class B felony, and third-degree driving with a suspended license, a misdemeanor. Harper-Rongey surrendered to authorities on Thursday, May 29, one day after DeWayne's death.

A Walla Walla man who died four days after a Saturday, May 24, hit-and-run collision has been identified as 71-year-old Robert Ellis DeWayne Jr., Walla Walla Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Nick Loudermilk confirmed. DeWayne was struck while driving his motorcycle about 6:40 p.m. at the intersection of Poplar Street and 11th Avenue. He was taken to Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla before being airlifted to another hospital, where he died Wednesday, May 28.
