Early results in the Tuesday, April 22, special election show voters were leaning against a capital levy for Waitsburg School District and favoring the formation of a regional fire authority that combines Walla Walla County Fire District Nos. 1, 3 and 7. Waitsburg School District is seeking approval of a capital levy that would collect $200,000, or 80 cents per $1,000 of assessed property valuation, during the next three years.

ATMs at all Baker Boyer Banks remain out of service while law enforcement continues to investigate the vandalism of - and theft from - three area machines over the weekend of April 5 and 6. Two Baker Boyer ATMs in Walla Walla and one in Milton-Freewater were targeted. Baker Boyer President and CEO Mark Kajita said on Friday, April 18, that the machines could be back in service by Friday, April 25.

Walla Walla County Superior Court staff is preparing to use additional tools to help make better decisions for pretrial release, while still following Criminal Rule 3.2, which mandates presumption of release for defendants in most cases. The court received a grant from the Administrative Office of the Courts to begin an adult pretrial services program. The first thing the court did with the money is hire a dedicated adult pretrial support services officer.
