As San Antonio Brahmas quarterback Kevin Hogan was wrapping up his Tuesday at the UFL hub in Arlington, he joined interim coach Payton Pardee and the rest of the quarterbacks group for a three-hour Zoom call. Despite spending two days this week at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers National Coaching Academy in Florida, Pardee carved out time in the evenings to review game plans and practice tape with the Brahmas signal-callers.

Across a career that has spanned more than 50 years, with stints as a head coach or defensive coordinator for nine NFL franchises, Wade Phillips wasn't sure he'd been around anything like what the San Antonio Brahmas accomplished in 2024. Phillips led the defense for a Denver Broncos team that won the 2016 Super Bowl, but even that group couldn't match San Antonio's statistical dominance, topping all UFL defenses in scoring, total yards, passing yards and sacks last season.

On the opening snap of his first start since 2017, San Antonio Brahmas quarterback Kevin Hogan rolled to his left and found Justin Smith streaking toward the sideline for a 56-yard gain. In just one throw, Hogan had put up more yardage than either previous starter Kellen Mond or No. 2 option Jarrett Guarantano produced in last week's blowout loss to Houston.
