We racers laugh and joke from time to time about EVs (electric vehicles) entering the sport. Three seasons ago, the bad-*ss World Rally Championship made the decision to add hybrid power to their cars. The result was, to quote Tim, the Toolman, Allen, ‘more power, argh, argh, argh’!!Horsepower ratings of slightly more than 500 were the result and the drivers loved their new power.

The FIA has announced Formula 1 Race Director Niels Wittich has left his role with immediate effect to “pursue new opportunities.” Translation: You are no Charlie Whiting so you’re fired. F1 has been in freefall since Charlie died 5 years ago and it will be really hard to recover!!Having said that, the FIA fired the wrong party. They should have terminated their brain-dead, incompetent, inconsistent and destructive Stewards Program. That is the weak link in the chain, not the race director.
