Penn State football will have premier play in the trenches this fall, according to Pro Football Focus’ preseason offensive and defensive line rankings. The Nittany Lions have the No. 5 defensive line in the country, per PFF. They are behind Clemson, Alabama, Texas Tech, and Florida. “While the Nittany Lions might not have the depth of other schools on this list, they still place in the top five for the two superstars they have in Zane Durant and Dani Dennis-Sutton,” Max Chadwick writes.

Penn State coach James Franklin held his first news conference of the summer on Thursday afternoon in State College. He covered plenty of ground, including some key injury updates. The first focused on three players who missed spring ball: Linebacker Tony Rojas, offensive tackle Anthony Donkoh, and tight end Andrew Rappleyea. “We expect all three to be fully cleared, not just for camp, but really for the majority of the summer as well.

Penn State football is hiring a former member of James Franklin’s staff to be its next Director of External Operations. Tristin Iannone is returning to State College to replace Destiny Rodriguez. She left the aforementioned position earlier this month for a player personnel office role with the New York Jets. Iannone spent the last four years with Ricky Rahne’s Monarchs. He started in 2020 as an assistant director of football operations before spending time on the recruiting side of things.

Penn State learned earlier this year that Class of 2026 four-star defender Daniel Jennings was interested in reclassifying to the Class of 2025 and coming to campus a season earlier than expected. Both sides were intrigued by the idea. But, it goes without saying that it can’t be acted on unless some things fall into place. They ultimately did, as Jennings was able to complete the academic requirements to both graduate high school and enroll at Penn State early.
