McLeod had served in the role once before, on behalf of the Texas Academy of Family Physicians (TAFP). McLeod traveled for the day to the state’s capital with his son Ori Hoffland to assist legislators with any health issues during the day’s session.

By Greg RitchieMessenger ReporterCROCKETT – Crockett City Council met Monday, April 7, with few items on the agenda, but a lot to discuss. The council dealt with budget issues for the many road projects which are nearing completion in the city, but the main topic of discussion was the terms of a renewal agreement with Live Oak Environmental, (formerly Piney Woods Sanitation) to help haul the city’s waste. Council members Darrell Jones and NaTrenia Hicks were absent.

Benge, who was elected in November 2024, pledged during his campaign to increase openness with the public. The March activity report marks a continuation of that effort.

Underlying U.S. inflation cooled broadly in March, indicating some relief for consumers prior to widespread tariffs that risk contributing to price pressures. The consumer price index (CPI), excluding often-volatile food and energy costs, increased 0.1 percent from February—the least in nine months—according to Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data out this morning.
