In a letter informing the Prime Minister of her resignation, the MP for Lewisham North said she understood “the need to address the ever-increasing welfare bill” but did not believe the proposed cuts “should be part of the solution”. She said: “I have wrestled with whether I should resign or remain in the Government and fight for change from within. “Sadly it is now (sic) seems that we are not going to get the changes I desperately wanted to see.

Scientists at the University of Aberdeen and NHS Grampian have been awarded £350,000 of Scottish Government funding to generate never-before-seen images of glioblastoma brain tumours. The technology is hoped to potentially improve treatment and quality of life for patients, by investigating a new way to scan glioblastoma brain tumours – the most common and aggressive type, with more than 3000 new patients in the UK diagnosed each year.

Researchers led by Heriot-Watt University carried out 400 hours of observations across five Scottish marine regions, looking at what happened when vessels were present at the same time as marine mammals such as whales, dolphins and seals. The study, which covered the Clyde, Forth and Tay, Moray Firth, Orkney Islands and Shetland Islands areas, documented hundreds of interactions between vessels and marine mammals, many of which occurred in sensitive or protected areas.

Israel’s air campaign against Iran entered its sixth day on Wednesday, with jets striking the Iranian capital Tehran overnight.
