Premier Jeremony Rockliff has refused to rule out the state's newly built ferry being used to house Ukrainian refugees in Scotland. Edinburgh-based journalist for BBC Scotland, James Delaney, tells Leon Compton on Tasmania Mornings that Scotland has used boats to house refugees before, but that practice was stopped in 2023 after the British Red Cross raised concerns about people experiencing isolation and living in windowless cabins.

Tasmania’s Health Minister, Jacquie Petrusma, says increased demand for midwifery services can be met by the Royal Hobart Hospital and Calvary, after Healthscope confirmed it would no longer provide private midwifery services in Tasmania. “We are already looking at what modifications we might need to make to the Royal Hobart Hospital, and I know Calvary are likewise looking at those,” Ms Petrusma tells Leon Compton on Tasmania Mornings.

The Australian Workers Union is seeking reassurances over the future of northern Tasmania's manganese smelter, which is part of a group of companies that includes Whyalla's steelworks. The Liberty Bell manganese smelter at George Town is part of the GFG Alliance, whose Whyalla steelworks has been forced into administration by the South Australian Government.

Fire fighters are continuing to battle several bushfires burning in difficult terrain on Tasmania's west coast. The evacuation centre is open at the Queenstown Sports Stadium. The facility has seen more than 50 people come through the doors, amid the evacuations from other nearby communities. Scott Riley, the general manager of the West Coast Council, told Leon on Tasmania Mornings: "We are currently open and taking registrations for anyone that is displaced.
