In late September, Tee Olomua sat on a stoop watching her family play HORSE with a deflated basketball on a playground strewn with trash and dog feces. When asked about new plans to redevelop the former site of Candlestick Park, which neighbors her home, Olomua raised her eyebrow and then rolled her eyes. She had been in Alice Griffith Community since it reopened in 2018, one of the first tenants to move from the dilapidated complex next-door to its shiny, new version.

Today was the ninth day an all-Black crew was denied work at a construction site in their backyard. At 6:45 a.m. sharp on Sept. 24, a group of 12 men and women in hard hats and work boots gathered on the corner of Beatrice Lane and Espanola Street in Hunters Point. Some walked over from their homes around the corner; a few carpooled. They chatted, sipping from McCafe cups. They were ready to work.

San Francisco police have officially named a suspect in the racist death threats against Terry Williams, a Black dog walker and lifelong Fillmore resident. And it turns out, the two have some history. The suspect is a 67-year-old Black woman named April Martin Chartrand, a resident of the 700 block of Steiner Street, on the same city block as the Williams family. Chartrand’s family reported her missing only weeks ago, on Aug. 23. Police say they are actively searching for her.

Support given to the Williams family after the fire — to house and feed them — have been petering out.
