    In three lawsuits, San Francisco City Attorney David Chiu is seeking to shutter multiple Tenderloin businesses for allegedly operating as illegal gambling dens, and selling drugs while fronting as discount stores or smoke shops. “The businesses housed substantial illegal gambling operations, facilitated criminal and drug activity in the neighborhood, and, in some cases, illegally sold controlled substances,” read a statement from the City Attorney’s Office today.

    The San Francisco Ethics Commission will fine a group that campaigned against Proposition K, which closed the Upper Great Highway to cars, for failing to register and report itself as a political committee.  Open the Great Highway, which solicited donations against Prop. K, “violated state and City campaign finance laws” as it conducted “membership engagement, fundraising, awareness campaigns, and city level advocacy,” according to a settlement agreed to by the group and the city.

    A team of roving nurses known for their outreach work in the Tenderloin is halting its operations due to federal funding cuts, Mission Local has learned. The Roving Community Health Initiative, which was founded in 2021 in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, has become a regular fixture in the neighborhood, with clinicians and community volunteers often seen walking the Tenderloin and offering medical services to people on the streets.
