The backdrop of Paris in the Olympics reminds us of the rich art that defines that city. In its own way, Sacramento has come to define its art culture in recent years through murals. Photographer Stuart Gow thinks one part of Sacramento could use more big statement pieces. Gow is working at a mostly forgotten space in Del Paso Heights. He looks for beauty in the blight, recently photographing a tagged fence that reads, "I wish you would love me again." It's a sentiment that sums up his mission.

Sky River Casino in Elk Grove is about to get bigger. On Friday, Wilton Rancheria unveiled its expansion plans and shared renderings. The casino already has gaming, entertainment, and more than a dozen restaurants and bars. Now, they want to add more features to attract customers, and they plan to do that in two phases. The focus of phase one is a new parking garage with 1,600 spaces. There will also be an enhanced valet service.

JUST BEING THERE FOR THEM, BECAUSE I WAS ON THE BOARD OF A TROOP CARRIER AND WE, UH, AT NIGHT, 2:00 IN THE MORNING, WE DID. I DID A LOT OF RIVER RUNS.

At a business park in Sacramento’s Natomas area, you’ll find a multi-million dollar venture 40 years in the making that reaches across the world. Margaret Wong is the one running the show. She co-founded McWong, which builds the components that power lighting. The business employs 500 people and trades with China. “People underestimate lighting, but everywhere you go you have lighting,” she said. The ultimate goal is to use new lighting tech to eventually run more of your home.
