Finding a home on the baseball field has never been a problem for Jack Trent. As a young boy, Trent proved early on that he felt comfortable on the baseball diamond. As a freshman at Bret Harte High School, Trent had no issue being a varsity player, surrounded by older schoolmates.

It’s safe to say there might not be another season like the 2025 campaign for the Calaveras High School softball team. From getting a new head coach just weeks before the season began, to struggling to score runs for much of the year, to getting hot at the right time and riding that momentum all the way to capturing the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division V championship, 2025 was truly a year to remember.

Every day, a dad or mom, a sister or brother, an aunt or uncle, or a grandparent is teaching a future ballplayer how to throw, catch, and love the game.

There’s no denying that the Bret Harte High School softball team continues to improve under head coach Brittany Jo Gilchrist. In her third season at the helm, Gilchrist guided the Bullfrogs to the playoffs for a second consecutive year – a significant achievement considering Bret Harte softball hadn’t reached the postseason in back-to-back years since the MaxPreps era began in 2005.
