*The youngest of seven siblings, Naomi Josephine Stansil (also known professionally as Naomi Johnson) was born on January 13, 1937, in Boston, Massachusetts, to Mattie Louise Smith-Stansil and Joseph Francis Stansil who were lovers of art, opera, country, blues, jazz, and gospel, and just about every genre of music. Naomi’s parents exposed their children to the performing arts at an early age. Each of their children learned piano, violin, voice, dance, and reciting poetry.

Minter, Esq., who passed away on December 6, 2023. I met Kendall when I was a 19-year-old college student at New York University majoring in the music business and interning at CBS Records (now Sony Music Entertainment).

*At the beginning of 2024, I saw Donnie Simpson wrap up a multi-year deal hosting his afternoon drive show on WMMJ-FM, also known as Majic 102.3 in Washington, DC. It’s amazing that outside of a short break away from the radio microphone, Donnie has been at it in the Nation’s Capital since 1978. The first time I heard Donnie on the radio in 1980, I was riding in the car with my late uncle.
