New and old anglers don't need to worry about getting a license when going out June 7-8. According to the Division of Fisheries and Wildlife of Massachusetts, this timeframe is free freshwater fishing weekend. One can fish in any public lake, pond, reservoir, stream, or river from 12 a.m. Saturday, June 7, until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, June 8. But while a license is not required, all other rules apply, including catch and size limits. Any other day, fishing licenses are required.
