Primary elections determine the options voters face in the fall. This primary, Pittsburgh voters will choose Democrat or Republican candidates to serve as the U.S. president, U.S. representative, state auditor general, state attorney general, state treasurer, and more. College students in Pennsylvania can vote in Pennsylvania.

    On Oct. 7, a new exhibit opened in the Posner Center. Violins of Hope: "Tuning Out Prejudice: Building Bridges that Last" showcases violins played by Jewish musicians before and during the Holocaust, highlighting the conditions in which music survived during and after the Holocaust. Created through collaboration between the community organization Violins of Hope Pittsburgh and the Carnegie Mellon Libraries Special Collections team, this unique exhibit will run until Nov. 21.

    On Oct. 2, The Tartan published an article that argued for the intrinsic connection between feminism and environmentalism. Author Veronica Michaels’ main thesis is that “it is the act of labeling nature as female that allowed for the continuous exploitation and destruction of it,” so we need to look toward women’s relationships with nature as we try to solve the climate crisis. To that point, I agree, and I think many useful and interesting points are made in the article.

The Nobel Prizes are a series of awards given out by a committee based in Norway and Sweden. Each year, six prizes are distributed for various disciplines. The prizes are as follows: medicine, physics, economic science, chemistry, literature, and peace work. Nobel Prizes can have multiple winners.

    Forum Editorials featured in the Forum section are solely the opinions of their individual authors. As much as we try to deny it, the truth is that we constantly judge books by their covers. It’s simply the way our brains work — we like looking at and owning pretty things. If a book is more aesthetically pleasing, it’s more likely that we’ll pick it up.
