Nona Football Club handed Inter Gainesville Kleb Foutbol its first loss of the season June 1, 5-1, at the Southwest Recreation Center fields in a USL League 2 matchup. Nona (2-2-0) started the game strong, keeping possession in its half and wasting no time in taking some shots. It quickly earned the first of many freekicks this game. Inter (1-1-1) continued on defense, rarely keeping the ball in its half. Its counterattacks more often than not resulted in loss of possession.

Tight Early InningsAfter a hit from Aaron Atkins, Oak Hall (8-5) scored two minutes into the game with a first-inning run. In the bottom half of the first, Newberry (18-4) took advantage of Troy Freeman’s inconsistent start when he walked three batters. Josh Morison responded with a RBI to tie the score at 1-1.

It seemed almost impossible for the Bobcats (13-6) to not get a hit. Once on base, they were active runners, stealing bases close to every at-bat. They had five stolen bases in four innings. An overthrow at second base allowed Buchholz’s Conner Brown to make it all the way to third while scoring JJ Gardner.
