    FLUVANNA COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Fluvanna County Public Schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Wednesday, August 21 following social media threats made toward the middle school. On Tuesday, August 20, the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office received multiple reports of a threat regarding Fluvanna County Middle School (FCMS). It is reported that during a voice call between students, two males joined the voice call and made threats to “shoot” or “blow up” FCMS.

    ORANGE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - A ban on open burning is officially in effect for Orange County. On Tuesday, June 25 the Orange County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to approve the burn ban. With this ban in effect, open burning is prohibited. Orange County says contained outdoor fires, such as fire pits or grills, are not restricted but must be attended to at all times and fully extinguished before being left unattended.

    LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) has issued a swimming advisory for a section of Lake Anna in Louisa County. According to a press release, the upper section of the North Anna Branch of Lake Anna is experiencing a harmful algae bloom. The North Anna Branch ranges from the waters of the North Anna arm, the “sandbar” of the lake, and downstream to the Route 522 Bridge. Some harmful algae blooms can cause gastrointestinal illness and skin rashes.

    CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - The Virginia Athletics Foundation and Virginia Athletics have established a memorial scholarship fund in honor of Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr., and D’Sean Perry. On Tuesday, June 11, the Virginia Athletics Foundation and Virginia Athletics announced the 1.15.41 Memorial Scholarship Fund. The memorial fund will annually award scholarships to three football players who embody the qualities Chandler, Davis Jr., and Perry carried with them.

    GREENE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Greene County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control division has seized 81 dogs, some pregnant, from a Free Union puppy mill. On Monday, June 10, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Division, along with a licensed veterinarian, went to the location in Free Union and executed a search warrant. All 81 dogs were removed and are currently in placement with dog shelters or rescue organizations. Charges against the puppy mill are pending. Do you have a story idea?
