Newport’s former iconic Sweet Tooth Candies building is undergoing a remodel to turn the space into commercial use with apartments. Sweet Tooth Candies was established in Newport in 1972, but announced it was starting its search for a new location in September 2024.

What started as Miami University’s first-ever mural class has ended with towering panels of color on public display at Newport on The Levee. Last fall, 15 students at Miami University participated in the department of art’s first mural class. They created multiple works of art now on display at The Levee in the alley next to Brothers Bar & Grill.

From backyard gardens to family farms, Campbell County residents are taking conservation into their own hands—and getting help to do it. Campbell County Conservation District members presented to the Campbell County Fiscal Court on May 7 during soil and water conservation stewardship week. The district has promoted the sustainability of natural resources in the county since 1945, when it was incepted by a citizens’ vote in response to the 1930s Dust Bowl.

Campbell County recognized Gene Dobbs, a long-time teacher at the Campbell County Detention Center’s GED program, for 25 years of service. Dobbs retired from the Sycamore Community School District as a junior high math teacher in 1998. At that time, the Campbell County Detention Center had just lost its GED instructor, and Dobbs was asked to fill in temporarily. That temporary idea turned into 25 more years of teaching for Dobbs, now officially retiring.
