    LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - The Jeff Davis Parish School Board will vote on buying a new insurance policy that could save the district hundreds of thousands of dollars. Over the last three years, the school board has had a pretty balanced budget, but officials said over those same three years, they’ve also had to make cuts. “We had some federal funds that ran out last year, that almost everyone in the state was using,” Superintendent John Hall said.

    WESTLAKE, La. (KPLC) - The City of Westlake provides residential and commercial gas across Westlake and Moss Bluff, but now the city is looking to bring on large-volume industrial users as customers. “Basically, the City of Westlake owns its own gas department,” Westlake Mayor Hal McMillin said. McMillin said they’ve been working with the Louisiana Municipal Gas Association to hopefully sell gas to industrial facilities in the area.

Pharmacy Benefit Managers or PBMs help to coordinate the care between a patient, physician and the medication needed. Currently, PBMs dictate what drugs are covered by your insurance, how much they’ll cost and where you can get them.

Schools are out, families are on vacation, and less donors show up to blood centers. “Everybody’s busy, no one has time to come in and donate blood. they’re trying to get all their summer things done in their yards,” Assistant Director of LifeShare Blood Center in Lake Charles, Karen Simien said. But blood donations during the summer months are critical.
