LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury is purchasing a $72,000 remote-controlled mower. Parish officials said it’s necessary to mow on steep slopes and hard-to-access locations. They said the mower will be used in places where a machine lighter than a tractor is needed. The mower is a 60-inch RC Mowers R-60 model from Covington Sales and Service. The parish already has one RC mower.

IOWA, La. (KPLC) — The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office said three people are dead, including a toddler, after a helicopter crash near Iowa on Friday. Officials said Jared Savant, 50, his wife, Tanya Savant, 35, and their 2-year-old baby died in the crash.

JEFF DAVIS PARISH, La. (KPLC) — The suspects in a 2018 double murder case in Lacassine pleaded guilty Monday in Jeff Davis Parish court. Jordan Alexander Legros, 27, and Javari Guidry, 28, were each indicted on two counts of second-degree murder but reached plea deals to drop their charges to manslaughter. Legros and Guidry were arrested after Walter Joseph Gotreaux, 72, and Darlene Cecelia Gotreaux, 70, were found dead in their home on the afternoon of Sunday, Dec. 16, 2018.

CAMERON, La. (KPLC) - A formal arrest has been made in a June 2022 overdose death in Cameron. Michaela Jo Gray, 34, faces second-degree murder charges in the death of Sheila Faulk. Her bond is $150,000. Gray and another woman, Brandy Boudreaux, 28, provided the drugs to Faulk, according to David French, public information officer for the Cameron Parish Sheriff’s Office. While an arrest warrant was issued in 2022, Gray was being held in another facility in the state on separate charges.

JENNINGS, La. (KPLC) - A 10-month-old remains hospitalized after being found in a hot car in Jennings Tuesday afternoon. The baby was brought to the hospital around 3:30 to 4 p.m., Police Chief Danny Semmes said. The child was in critical condition Tuesday evening, but Semmes said he did not have a current status on the baby’s health. Temperatures in Jennings around 3 p.m. Tuesday were 92 to 93 degrees with a heat index of 106.
