    GUILFORD - Town police say they are investigating after two businesses on the Boston Post Road were burglarized early Wednesday morning. The businesses, Three Girls Vegan Eatery and Snip Snaps Kids Cuts, are located within Guilford Plaza on the 600 block of Boston Post Road, Guilford Police Chief Christopher Massey said in a news release Thursday. Massey said the investigation has determined that both burglaries took place around 3 a.m. Wednesday.

    BURLINGTON - What officials called "a suspicious substance" was found in an envelope at a home on Kings Grant Road Friday night, Connecticut State Police said. Troopers from Troop L in Litchfield responded to the home at approximately 7:35 p.m., police said in an email. Local fire officials, Department of Energy and Environmental Protection officials, and a UConn hazmat team also responded to the scene, police said. Police did not immediately share any additional information.

    THOMPSON - A Thompson man was arrested Friday for his role in a 2024 crash in that seriously injured a passenger in the car he was driving, police said. Wes McRoy, 21, turned himself into police at 6:50 a.m. Friday and was charged with reckless driving, first-degree reckless endangerment, failure to maintain lane, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, Connecticut State Police said in a news release.

    OXFORD - A street sweeper caught fire on Friday, closing Chestnut Hill Road Extension for several hours as the Oxford Fire Department extinguished the flames and cleared the scene, officials said. The fire department responded at 9 a.m. after a street sweeper caught fire on the road, and first-responders found the cab of the street sweeper "fully engulfed in flames," officials said in a post to Facebook. Photos of the fire show heavy smoke coming off of a vehicle.

    BRIDGEPORT - Police are investigating after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of James Street and Washington Avenue Friday, officials said. The crash happened around 4:45 p.m., Bridgeport city spokesperson Shawnna White said in an email. The victim has been transported to Bridgeport Hospital with a minor injury to their elbow, White said. The driver of the vehicle stayed on the scene and was cooperative with police, White said.
