NEW WINDSOR – Two New Jersey man, whose company was involved with the demolition and removal of debris from the former Destinta Movie Theater lot at 214 Quassaick Avenue in New Windsor have been arrested. Town Supervisor Steve Bedetti said Gary DiGiovanni, 61, of Ringoes, NJ was arrested by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office and Dean Buncombe, 45, of Harrrington Park, NJ, who were involved with the contracted removal of C&D material, were found to be dumping truckloads of materials.

BEACON – The fire that destroyed a house at 9 Alice Street in the City of Beacon and claimed one life remains under investigation. The fire claimed the life of Eugene (Gene) Murphy, 81, a 30-year employee of city highway department and was a supervisor in the agency. Three other people were injured in the blaze that was reported just before 6:30 Tuesday evening. The two-alarm blaze that brought out several area fire departments, tore through the two-story building.

MAMAKATING – A stash of 116.4 ounces of fentanyl equates to 3,300 grams or 7.4 pounds of the killer drug and that is the amount seized after State Police pulled over a 2012 Jeep Grant Cherokee going westbound on Route 17 in the Town of Mamakating for a vehicle and traffic violation. A trooper with the assistance of K9 Wink found the drugs when the driver, identified as Rafael Dejesus, 67, of Howard Beach was stopped on Sunday, April 13.

MONTICELLO – The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of the two deputies involved in the shooting of a suspect who shot at them after shoplifting at the Dollar General store near the Evergreen Apartment Complex on the afternoon on Thursday, April 10. The deputies were Andrew Foertsch and Daiana Durant. Deputy Foertsch has been a member of the sheriff’s office for more than four years. Deputy Durant has been a member since June 2024.

GREENVILLE – State Police have released the name of the woman troopers shot and killed when she pointed what appeared to be a gun at them on Saturday, April 12 in the Town of Deerpark. Nancy Loftus, 69, of Port Jervis was shot after what turned out to be a pellet gun at the officers. The weapon was recovered at the scene. In the meantime, State Police also identified the two officers involved in the shooting at Forrest Drive as Trooper Kevin Jacks and Trooper James Curtin.

TOWN OF DEERPARK – Two state troopers opened fire and killed a woman who pointed what appeared to be a handgun at them early this morning (Saturday). It was around 2:30 a.m. when troopers responded to a reported domestic incident involving a knife at Forrest Drive in Deerpark. They found a male victim on the front porch who reported a woman was armed with a knife and gun.

MONTICELLO – State Police Friday said the man shot by police in Monticello on Thursday had just shoplifted from the Dollar General store at 18 Forestburgh Road and opened fire at a sheriff’s deputy. Troopers said that deputy returned fire striking the suspect, now identified as Markell Jarrett, 29, of Monticello. Jarrett continued to flee a short distance before surrendering and was taken into custody by troopers and Sullivan County sheriff’s deputies. A firearm was recovered at the scene.
