    The best of the area will put everything on the line this weekend at the annual state track and field meet. The event kicks off Friday at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at the Ohio State University. Action kicks off at 9:30 a.m. with the girls’ and boys’ 3200 relay in Division III. The last event Friday is the boys’ 1600 relay at 7:25. Racing resumes Saturday with the girls, then boys 300 hurdles. The final event Saturday is the Division I 1600 relay scheduled for 6:50.

    Track and field athletes from around the county put on a real show at Woody Hayes Quaker Stadium in New Philadelphia Thursday night. When all was said and done, seven new meet records were established at the annual Tuscarawas County Classic. In three cases, breaking the old meet record wasn’t enough to win. Take the girls’ 400 relay race for example.

    After winning the ABO championship, Andre “Sugar Dre” Donovan returned to his Uhrichsville home and spent approximately four hours watching the fight he’d just won. Then he went to bed. Just not alone … he took his new title belt with him. Last Saturday, Donovan spent the evening at the Hollywood Casino in Washington, Pa., where he stopped veteran fighter Jesus Martinez in the third round of a scheduled eight-round fight to win the Appalachian Boxing Organization’s Bantamweight Championship.

    Fairless senior Collin Sullivan had a long day, but he made the most of it. After qualifying for the state finals Saturday evening, Sullivan had to wait for the final matches Sunday night to get his shot at a state title. He didn’t waste it. Sullivan won the first state wrestling title in school history, claiming the Division III individual 285-pound title with a 7-3 win over Christopher Timms of Indian Lake. Sullivan wrapped up the season with a 47-4 record.

    A number of high school wrestlers from the area will put it all on the line when they head to the state wrestling tournament this weekend in Columbus. Garaway leads the area with five qualifiers in the Division III contest, while Claymont, Indian Valley, Tusky Valley and West Holmes have three each. Wrestling kicks off at the Schottenstein Center Friday at 1 with the preliminaries and a consolation round.
