I was delighted to meet Bapsi Sidhwa at a SAJA conference, years after we'd corresponded as TIME magazine commissioned her to write this essay for a special issue marking 50 years of India and Pakistan independence. SAJA notes the passing of legendary Pakistani-US writer Bapsi Sidhwa. She was an early supporter of, and speaker at, our events going back a quarter century. Particularly memorable was a joint event w/filmmaker Deepa Mehta, whose “Earth” & “Water” were based on Sidhwa novels.🌷
