    AbstractInhibitory interneurons in the cortex are classified into cell types differing in their morphology, electrophysiology, and connectivity. Although it is known that parvalbumin (PV), somatostatin (SST), and vasoactive intestinal polypeptide-expressing neurons (VIP), the major inhibitory neuron subtypes in the cortex, have distinct modulatory effects on excitatory neurons, how heterogeneous spatial connectivity properties relate to network computations is not well understood.

    The Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence held its annual conference on artificial intelligence from Feb. 25 to March 4 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The eight-day conference series aimed “to promote research in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and foster scientific exchange between researchers, practitioners, scientists, students, and engineers across the entirety of AI and its affiliated disciplines” and featured Penn faculty members.

    Two Penn students received the Marshall Scholarship, which grants students the opportunity to earn a graduate degree at any university in the United Kingdom. College and Wharton seniors Tej Patel and Sridatta Teerdhala are among the 36 Marshall Scholars selected this year from 983 initial candidates. Both Patel and Teerdhala are in the Vagelos Program in Life Sciences and Management.

    For Princeton students, laundry is more than just a chore. It’s a daunting weekly or bi-weekly puzzle. Clothes washing — and drying, folding, and putting away — are crammed into ever-busy schedules. That’s not to mention the added challenge of finding a free machine. In the past two years, there have been 145 posts about laundry on Fizz, a social media app for Princeton students, including many complaints about the limited laundry facilities.

    Penn Democrats hosted an event with Pennsylvania attorney general candidate Eugene DePasquale and Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) at the Perelman Center for Political Science and Economics on Oct. 10. During the talk — which was co-sponsored by the Andrea Mitchell Center for the Study Of Democracy and the Government and Politics Association — DePasquale and Khanna spoke about civic engagement ahead of the upcoming election and answered questions from roughly 50 attendees.
