As a crime prevention officer with the Mesa Police Department, he was concerned by how much time police spent responding to service calls from apartment complexes. Tiffany Johnson does not regret defending her 7-year-old daughter in a Tucson pool that afternoon, even though it led to her family facing an eviction. It was midday in late May 2024 and temperatures in southern Arizona already were pushing 90 degrees. At their apartment complex’s community pool, three boys were tossing around a soft football. Tiffany, 29, said she asked them several times to stop throwing the ball near her family.
