Authorities are investigating how a load of turf laden with fire ants was certified as treated and clear before being delivered to a property on the NSW north coast. The ants, including six queens, were found at Eureka in the Byron Shire, 53 kilometres from the Queensland border. A landscaper discovered the ants on Tuesday in turf delivered by a South-East QLD supplier.

I love the Piedmont Park Robot Bathroom. Not because it’s pretty or pleasant. A basic green-and-stainless-steel box, this public bathroom was designed to be vandal-resistant, fully automated, and self-cleaning. It was a futuristic eyesore when it was installed in 2008, inside the stately Charles Allen Gate. Outside, it looks like a misplaced elevator. Inside, as one Department of Parks & Recreation employee told me, “It looks like a prison toilet.”After 16 years, the unit is showing its age.

During the summer of 2023, Flux Projects will present Ghost Pools, a multi-media installation by Hannah Palmer that explores Atlanta’s history with public swimming by creating temporary memorials to two pools in East Point that became a battleground over integration and were eventually abandoned. Of the two pools, one was restricted to white residents while the other was in East Point’s segregated Black neighborhood.
