The Waterloo Regional Police Service held a Polar Plunge at their headquarters on Maple Grove Road in Cambridge. The first volunteers took the leap of faith at 1 p.m., testing the waters for everyone else who watched on from the sidelines, steeling their nerve for the icy dip.

Mary McFarlane from Bright, Ont. and Connie Rodgers from just north of Elmira, Ont., are preparing to summit three Guatemalan volcanoes in just under two weeks, tackling more than 8,000 feet of elevation.
