Brantford Police Service headquarters on Elgin Street in Brantford, Ont., are seen on Nov. 23, 2012. (CTV Kitchener) The Brantford Police Service are looking for a suspect after they received a call about a person with a gun. Officers were called to the Sheridan Street and Stanley Street area around 11 a.m. Thursday. While officers looked for the suspect with a weapon, two nearby schools were temporarily placed in hold and secure protocols.

People living near the Lancaster Rail Crossing in Kitchener may have noticed an increase in train horns lately. Metrolinx is conducting infrastructure work at a property near the crossing. As part of that work, a warning sign on the north-east side of the crossing near Lancaster Street West and Victoria Street North was temporarily removed. The other three warning signs have been disconnected.

Measles continues to spread in Waterloo Region as several parts of Ontario grapple with the highly infectious disease. In an update to Region of Waterloo council on Wednesday, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang confirmed the number of local cases has grown. “There has been increased measles activity locally and throughout the province. As of Tuesday, April 22, we have 31 confirmed cases locally.

A stolen vehicle has been severely damaged in a fire in Kitchener. Waterloo Regional Police were called to multiple reports of a vehicle fire in the Bleams Road and Homer Watson Boulevard area on Wednesday. When officer arrived, the vehicle was engulfed in flames and had suffered significant damage. Investigators later determined the vehicle had been stolen. The investigation is ongoing.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service is renewing their call for information about two missing teen girls. Police believe 15-year-old Aleena from Kitchener and 17-year-old Sophia from Waterloo were last seen in Brampton, but they may be in the Toronto, Etobicoke or Mississauga areas. Earlier this month, police said the pair hadn’t been heard from since March 29 when they were both at Bramalea City Centre. Aleena is described as 5’6”, with an athletic build and long curly hair.
