While much of NSW’s Mid North Coast has been left ravaged by flooding, two men have been arrested for allegedly looting amid the chaos. On Sunday night, police arrested a 20-year-old man caught picking through property on Pulteney Street in Taree. Officers allegedly found the man in possession of two hunting knives, first aid kits, a defibrillator and several fishing rods. He also allegedly possessed tools and other medical items.

The mother of missing teen Pheobe Bishop has shared two emotional messages as the search for the 17-year-old enters its ninth day. Ms Bishop was last seen being driven to the Bundaberg Airport by her housemates, James Wood and Tanika Bromley, on the morning of May 15 from a Gin Gin property. She was meant to board a flight to Brisbane, and then onto Perth, to see her boyfriend – but she never got on the 8.30am flight.

Anthony Albanese has officially been declared the member for Grayndler, more than a fortnight after Labor’s landslide victory. The Prime Minister was formally announced as the winner in his inner-Sydney seat by the Australian Electoral Commission at a ceremony on Wednesday. Mr Albanese won the seat he has held since 1996 on primary votes, securing 53.6 per cent with a swing of 2.8 per cent. He was one of 10 candidates in the seat.

Hundreds of calls for help have been made across NSW after blistering rain and winds ripped through parts of Sydney and the Central Coast - tearing up trees and plunging houses into darkness. More than a month’s rain is expected to smash parts of the state within days. But the carnage started early on Monday as winds tore up trees, shuttered roads and knocked out power for residents.

Bridget McKenzie has warned the Coalition “shouldn’t be taken for granted” ahead of a meeting between the leaders of the National and Liberal parties. Relations between the parties have been under severe strain since the federal election, which saw the Nationals hold their lower house seats while the Liberal vote collapsed. The senior Nationals senator on Thursday said an agreement with the Liberal Party had to be “mutually beneficial”.
