For earning a tidy income in board fees from an ASX-listed bookmaker, PointsBet’s executives really don’t seem to be the gambling type when it comes to their own money. At least, if their decision to back a $402 million takeover bid from Japanese entertainment giant Mixi is anything to go by. Should the deal go ahead, it will bring an end to a five-month fight between Mixi and Matthew Tripp’s Betr for the local operations of PointsBet. Loading...

The University of Technology Sydney may be sacking 400 of their own staff members, but at least they’re keeping the staff at SafeWork NSW in gainful employment. The workplace safety watchdog recently launched an investigation into UTS, issuing it with a “notice to give information” under the Work Health and Safety Act. Loading...

And we’re off!

We are (so) back at Rear Window today. And very excited to have Melbourne's @hannahkwootton in the co-pilot seat. New dawn, going to be a great new year!

We want pay in line with CPI after years of getting far less. We want newsrooms that reflect the diversity of our readers, for Nine to talk to us before using AI, and job security that reflects the papers’ profitability. Doesn’t seem like too much to ask for. #DontTorchJournalism

Striking today with my colleagues from @FinancialReview, @theage + @smh for fairer pay, to secure jobs and to protect journalism @withMEAA #DontTorchJournalism https://t.co/DPz1FB9cnX
