Newberry, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is investing approximately $1.5 million to repair and rebuild two Alger County bridges. The projects will include superstructure replacement, end header replacement, deck patching, substructure repair, and approach work on US-41 bridges over the West Branch of Whitefish River and Huber Creek. Traffic will be detoured via M-67 and M-94 during work on the West Branch of the Whitefish River bridge.

Marquette, MI - Marquette City officials are reminding residents the filing deadline for local offices has changed. In November 2024, Marquette city voters approved an amendment to the City Charter eliminating primary elections for local offices. As a result, the filing deadline for local offices has shifted from April to July.

Ironwood, MI - Ironwood officials are reporting receiving several phone calls from out-of-town residents regarding strange phone calls. According to the Ironwood Public Safety Facebook page, the individuals reported receiving a phone call from someone claiming to work for the City of Ironwood and requesting payment on their delinquent utility bill. Officials say the City of Ironwood does not call residents about delinquent bills, nor do they accept payments over the phone.

Ishpeming Township, MI - Two people were injured in a 2-vehicle accident in Ishpeming Township. Marquette County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched at about 7:33 this morning to US-41 near North Lake Drive. Deputies say a tractor-trailor driven by a 63-year old man of Luxemburg, Wisconsin, was eastbound on US-41 when he was rearended by a vehicle driven by an 82-year old Ishpeming woman. The tractor-trailer was turning onto North Lake Drive when the accident occurred.
