WNMU-FM is a radio station located in Marquette, Michigan, broadcasting on FM 90.1. Owned by Northern Michigan University, it is part of the National Public Radio network and features a rich mix of classical and jazz music, along with various local shows. The station is run by a team of full-time professionals and students. WNMU-FM caters to listeners in the Upper Peninsula and northeastern Wisconsin. It first went on air in 1963, originally under the call sign WNMR, and became a member of NPR in 1971, officially changing its name to WNMU-FM in 1975. While WNMU-FM is licensed for HD Radio broadcasting, it paused HD transmission in spring 2011 due to budgetary issues.
