The last few years have been a real treat for Shin Megami Tensei fans. , a sequel to Soul Hackers, and a more fully-realised version of Shin Megami Tensei V, there’s something for every fan of ATLUS. While it’s nice to see this JRPG behemoth boom in popularity since Persona 5 dropped, it makes me even happier to see them pay homage to their roots. Perhaps one of the most outlandish examples of this is the Raidou Kuzunoha games under the Devil Summoner spin-off brand.

For a franchise that’s been on ice for the last decade or so, Tron has come back in a big way in the last few years. With Tron: Ares due for release in a few short months, 2023’s Tron: Identity, and now Tron: Catalyst, Tron fans have plenty of opportunities to spend more time in the Grid. Bithell’s second crack at a Tron title is markedly different from their first, abandoning the visual novel framework of Identity in favour of something a bit more action focused.

While it’s been more than a decade since Mario Kart 8 was released on the Nintendo Wii U, it isn’t hard to see why it’s taken so long for a ninth entry. In its current state, Mario Kart 8 is a behemoth of a game. It sports 96 courses, five different battle modes, and 44 playable courses. Coupled with the fact that it’s the best-selling Wii U and Nintendo Switch game, it’s clear to see that Mario Kart World has enormous shoes to fill.

There’s no game in the Like A Dragon franchise quite like Yakuza 0. The last game before Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio made a full pivot to the Dragon Engine is utterly stuffed with content, has some of the best combat in the series, and most importantly, led to a massive explosion in popularity in the west. It’s arguably the most important entry in the series, perfecting the action beat ’em up formula before the series made the jump to turn-based battling.

As JRPGs continued to gravitate towards flashy real-time combat systems in the early 2010s, Bravely Default’s original launch couldn’t have come at a better time. A true, no caveats turn-based experienced complete with all the hallmarks of games from Square Enix’s glory days. It’s the very definition of gaming comfort food, a hearty adventure with refined mechanics and an inventive battle system that still stands apart today.

I'm glad ATLUS isn't forgetting their older, more experimental title amongst all the Persona adoration around nowadays. RAIDOU Remastered is a fun little package that's unlike any of their other titles. Immaculate vibes, tight pacing, and some nice modernisations here!
