Governors of the 19 Northern States have called for swift action over the gruesome killing of some travellers, on Friday night. Daily Trust reports that 12 of 31 persons who were travelling to Plateau from Kaduna were murdered in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State. In a statement, Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGG) and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, condemned the killing, describing it as barbaric.

The people of Gombe metropolis were thrown into mourning last Friday when an electrical power surge following a high-voltage from a transformer led to the death of five people and leaving 13 others injured. A Permanent Secretary in the Gombe State Civil Service, Muhammad Yusuf Kulani, and four other people were electrocuted, while 13 others sustained various degrees of injuries, when a live electricity cable fell on their respective houses in Tudun Wadan Pantami area of Gombe Metropolis.

Residents of Gombe have protested against an announcement by the Nigeria Police Force on the restriction of the use of motorcycles from 7pm to 6am across the state. The Gombe State Police Command had on Wednesday announced the immediate ban on using motorcycles between the hours of 7pm and 6am, in an effort to curb phone snatching and other crimes across the state.
